The crash occurred at about 11 p.m. Monday night in the town of Saukville near Hawthorne Hills Golf Course. The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department believes alcohol and speed were factors.
Three people were killed in a crash near Hawthorne Hills Golf Course on Monday night.
Stephen Miller, 23, of Port Washington and Jayme Ceplina, 21, of West Bend were both pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash that took place near the intersection of Hawthorne Road and County Highway I in the town of Saukville, according to a press release from the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office.
The driver, Nicholas Snow, a 25-year-old Germantown man, was transported via Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. Lt. Christy Knowles confirmed that the driver had died as a result of his injuries by Tuesday afternoon.
The three had been traveling east bound on Hawthorne Road, and Snow failed to stop for a the T-intersection with County Hwy. I, causing the vehicle to travel onto the Hawthorne Hills Golf Course service road, according to the press release. The vehicle then hit several trees before splitting in two.
The Sheriff's Department believes speed and alcohol were a factor in the crash, the press release said.
Knowles said the officers found beer cans in the vehicle and blood samples were taken for a follow-up BAC test.
"We do not have any indications that the driver was drinking," she said. "The investigation is still on-going as a crash reconstruction is being conducted. Charges will not be filed as the driver has since died as a result of his injuries sustained from the crash."
