Bites Nearby: Out & Out Puts a Spin on a Classic

Cedarburg’s Out & Out reinvents the traditional custard stand with creative sandwiches and custard treats.

If you’re looking for the best eats around, you’ve come to the right place.  Each week Port Washington-Saukville Patch finds a great restaurant nearby that’s a must-eat.  Here’s the pick this week:

OUT & OUT CUSTARD AND SANDWICHES — Frozen custard and sandwich stands are not an uncommon sight around these parts, however Out & Out in Cedarburg has its own take on the idea making for some unusually good treats.

While most custard stands tend to focus on old standbys, Out & Out ditches the tradition in favor of a more innovative menu.  Instead of burgers and hot dogs, the restaurant serves up a nice selection of paninis, wraps, salad, and twisted macaroni and cheese.

Out & Out gets creative with these offerings.  Popular items include the cranberry turkey wrap that includes herb cream cheese, pecans, and field greens for a healthier Thanksgiving dinner any day of the week.  And the restaurant spices its menu up with the Spicy Chicken Kick macaroni — a bowl of twisted noodles, sliced chicken breast, andouille sausage, red peppers, and a zesty cheddar sauce.  A few classics like the Cuban and the Rueben are on the menu, but made new as paninis.

And there’s always room for dessert at Out & Out with homemade custard and the list of Everydaes, because these treats can be enjoyed every day of the week.  The S’mores Sensation — chocolate and vanilla custard, chocolate bar pieces, marshmallow cream, graham crackers, and hot fudge — is always a good choice.  Guests can also create their own everydae from a long list of ingredients ranging from Pop Rocks to pretzels to pecans.

With creative sandwiches and sundaes, Out & Out stands out in a crowd of custard stands.  W61 N305 Washington Ave., Cedarburg.  262-377-5515.  Open daily at 10 a.m.  Sandwiches from $4 to &7.

You missed one of the biggest draws for Out and Out.

They have some excellent gluten free noodle choices!
