Christmas on the Corner: Schedule and Highlights for Saturday Event

Photos with reindeer, cookie decorating, a Christmas parade and more will all be part of this weekend's holiday celebration with an "Around the World," experience.

Organizers of this year's Christmas on the Corner event in Port Washington have partnered with a high school group to bring attendees an experience from "Around the World."

Amy Gannon, who is helping with Port Washington Main Street to organize the event, said the group partnered with United for Youth — a group from Port Washington High School — to sponsor nine different "country" locations at participating businesses.

The event runs from 3 to 7 p.m., and gives attendees a chance to experience Christmas as it is in these countries by visiting the businesses, Gannon said. There will also be an activity for children at each "country." Event attendees can look for the countries' flags at businesses to find each stop.

Here is a list of the countries and corresponding businesses:

Event attendees can also stop by Cousins Subs for horse and carriage rides, check out the live nativity on Franklin Street and live reindeer and cookie decorating at Dockside Deli, Gannon said. Tinker the Toy Horse, letters to Santa and an "Elf yourself" photo booth are among acitivities at Blue Heron Artisan's Gallery, and outdoor movies in the Beanies parking lot will include "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and  "A Year Without a Santa Claus." There are also free pictures with Santa at Port Washington State Bank by Grand Photo and Design.

At 6 p.m. there will be a tree lighting, with a parade to start at 6:15, Gannon said. Fireworks will follow the parade weather permitting. St. Nick will be walking around throughout the event handing out stockings.

The annual event is sponsored by the Port Washington State Bank, Tellos, Port Washington Yacht Club, Sharbuno Jewelers and Schmit Bros. Auto.

I am not sure about the times/pricing, but I'm shooting another e-mail to Amy Gannon and if I hear back before the evening I will let you know!

She got back to me: "Rides are $10.00 a couple $15.00 a family." I assume they will be going on throughout the event, starting at 3, and probably until the parade at 615? ... I'd just get there early :)
