Coal Dock Forum Shares Plans for New Park

Port Washington is hosting an open forum on Tuesday to discuss the plans for the new Coal Dock Park, set to open June 2013.

Port Washington officials will meet at City Hall on Tuesday to reveal more details about the planned Coal Dock Park set to open in June 2013.

The meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. with a presentation about current plans starting at 5:30 p.m., according to a PDF with event information. The meeting is meant to act as an open forum for community members to provide input.

The entire project entails work on two areas: the north coal dock and south coal dock. The latter, which is set to be completed and open Aug. 6, includes a bird sanctuary and walking trails accessible from South Beach.

Port Washington officials are also planning to build a World War II memorial in the new Coal Dock project on the city’s lakefront. The memorial will include a replica star used to represent those who served in the war and it will be placed in an area that on 11:11 a.m. on Veteran’s Day, it will be under a shadow.
