Drunken Driver Slammed into Shopko Express
Police, WE Energies responded to accident that occurred about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Police responded to a crash at 1:59 a.m. Saturday when a vehicle collided with the Shopko Express building.
The 31-year-old driver, a man from Saukville, had been traveling at a high speed going north on North Benjamin Street when he lost control of his car near West Whitefish Road.
The vehicle jumped the curb, traveled over the sidewalk, down a grassy median and over a stone retaining wall. The vehicle then slammed into the building, severing a gas line. WE Energies responded to the incident to fix the gas line.
Officers requested an ambulance for the driver of the vehicle, but the passenger, a woman from Saukville, was treated on scene and refused transport due to only having abrasions on her nose.
The driver was cited for second offense drunken-driving, as well as operating while intoxicated and causing injury.
