Drunken Trip to McD's Leads to Charges for Port Man
Suspect went to the Saukville McDonald's drive-thru drunk and was pulled over after employees contacted police.
A 42-year-old Port Washington man is facing multiple charges after he decided to go to McDonald’s in Saukville after a night of drinking.
Jeffrey J. Poull was charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on Thursday with one count of third-offense operating while intoxicated, one count of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration and one count of possession of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. If convicted, he faces up to 2-1/2 years in prison and $5,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 11:30 p.m. Dec. 21, police were called to the Saukville McDonald’s after an employee reported Poull had just come through the drive-thru window and smelled heavily of alcohol and was now driving on Highway 33. Police caught up to Poull’s SUV and saw him drift over the fog line on South Riverside Drive, then correct himself by steering over the center line of the road.
He was then pulled over and told the officer he drank four "whiskey sweets" before driving. Poull failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.22, which is nearly three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.
Poull was previously convicted of OWI in 2000 and 2004. He will make his initial appearance in court Feb. 16.

I predict that he will suddenly realize he has a drinking problem, seek treatment for his addiction, and come to court telling the judge how this has "turned his life around".
That does seem to be the template these people are using now....
BTW, Kudos to the staff at McDonald's for doing the right thing and calling the police.

Actually Marie I do know him. This is too small a town and he is too well known. And frankly I am surprised that this is only his third.
As far as my assumptions as to how the defense of this is going to run, you don't have to look very far into these news blotters to realize that is how all of these tend to go for court. Too late does this self awareness come, and only when convenient for the sentencing hearing.
It constantly amazes me how many people find god when the devil is already dancing in their yard.

Ann & Marie, This isn't personal. This is a situation where someone broke a law and got behind the wheel of a moving vehicle to drive on public roads with an illegal blood alcohol content. This is not allowed in Wisconsin and the right thing was done. Thanks to McDonalds and thanks to the police for their quick response in honor of public safety and serving the greater good, not just the "good" of one hungry drunk customer. Thanks to hunger for revealing the problem and thanks to alcohol for impairing the judgment enough that he would drive through a McDonalds and think he would not be detected as drunk. Of course we all know people in The Patch. It's local news. Maybe not all of them, but many of them. We all know most of these people. You don't protect "a friend" when they put others at risk. You tell your friend they made a bad decision, or maybe you will pick them up next time they drink four whiskey sweets and are headed home. What do you think? You think a friend could do that? Whatever. Known him since you were five changes nothing and yelling up above about judging people just makes you look like you are ranting and yelling without thinking, and you are in favor of drinking and driving perhaps, so, cops, watch those girls!!! A law was broken and a move was made to get caught. DON'T DRIVE DRUNK and FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK.

Well said. The fact that there are those still willing to justify this kind of behavior as not a big deal, just tells us how far we have yet to go towards solving this problem.

he is a drunk like his brother, and his bother is around children drunk all the time. They must have been raised that way
