Give Big: Volunteering for Big Brothers, Big Sisters a 'Rewarding' Experience
Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Ozaukee County has lots of local kids looking for matches — as well as plenty of already successfully paired "bigs" and "littles." As part of launching a new feature about the program, one pair speaks out on their relationship
Port Washington-Saukville Patch has teamed up with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Ozaukee County to bring readers information about the people involved in its local program.
Most weeks, this feature will profile a child — or "little" — who is waiting to be matched with an adult role model — or "big."
This week, we are going to kick off the feature with an already matched "big" and "little," who want to share the ways the program has enhanced both of their lives.
Meet big Jeff Kaul and little Bailey
Jeff Kaul and Bailey, 9, have been paired through the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program for 2 years.
How would you describe your match?
Jeff: I’m lucky because I get to see Bailey every day at school and then I get to be with him outside the school setting. We have a lot of common interests.
What are your favorite activities to do together?
Jeff: We like to go to movies, play board games, go on bike rides, fishing trips, and hiking at Harrington State Park.
Things you would like people to know about volunteering with Big Brothers, Big Sisters:
Jeff: Being a Big Brothers is a very rewarding experience. Spending time together with someone who really looks forward to each outing, makes it special.
Things you enjoy about being a Big Brother/Little Brother:
Jeff: "I have enjoyed watching Bailey grow as a student as well as a great young man."
Bailey: "I get to do a lot of fun stuff with Mr. Kaul. I like it when he watches my soccer games and we go to movies."
Difference you have seen in each other and your relationship since you have been matched:
Jeff: "When we first met, Bailey was a shy 7 year old. Now Bailey and I can sit and talk about books and movies over dinner. He has really matured over the past 2 years."
Bailey: "Our relationship got better the more times we hung out together."
