With just days to go before Tuesday's primary election, 20th District Sen. Glenn Grothman expressed his support for businessman Eric Hovde in the Republican race for U.S. Senate nominee.

In a press release Thursday, Grothman (R-West Bend) cited Hovde's business expertise and "understanding of the moral decline" in the United States as qualities that would make him a good senator.

"His knowledge of the issues is amazing," Grothman said. "His interest in small community banks gives him a special understanding of some of the bailouts of reckless and well-connected institutions. It also gives him knowledge of our monetary system that is probably unmatched in Congress."

This endorsement comes as the race enters its final days, with Hovde pitted against former Gov. Tommy Thompson, businessman Mark Neumann and State Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald. Tuesday's primary winner will go on to face Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin in November.

The latest poll from Marquette University Law School shows Thompson leading the pack with 28 percent of the vote, trailed by Hovde with 20 percent. Twenty-one percent of voters are still undecided, according to the poll.
