Obituary: Marilyn Swanson
Marilyn Swanson, 80, of Wausau, and mother to Port Washington Adult Community Senior Center executive director, passed away late May.
Marilyn Marion Myrtle (Birkholz) Swanson, age 80, of Wausau, formerly of Edgerton, was called home on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau, WI.
She was born in Janesville on Feb. 2, 1932, the second daughter of Herman William and Myrtle Clara (Reinke) Birkholz and was a 1950 graduate of Janesville High School. She married Charles John Swanson on June 11, 1955, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death in March of 1989. Marilyn was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church until moving to Edgerton in 1965, where she was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church.
In 1994, she returned to St. Paul's, where she was active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and St. Paul's Fellowship Club. Marilyn returned to work after her children were through school and was Office Manager/Bookkeeper for the YWCA and then for St. John Lutheran Church in Edgerton until she retired in 2003. She loved her Lord with all her heart and He, together with her husband, Charles and children were the light of her life.
The Lord blessed her with 5 children: John C. (Patti) Swanson of Neenah, Marion (Jim) Linse of Sheboygan, Catherine (Larry) Kiener of Port Washington, Susan (friend, Roger) Swanson of Wausau, and Holly (Russ) Prahl of Wausau; 9 grandchildren: 1LT Rob Swanson, Melissa, Joshua, Katrina and Anna Linse, Michael and Amelia Kiener and Nicholas and Zebediah Prahl; sister, Deanna (Ronald) Cox; brother-in-law, Jack Libby;3 sisters-in-law; Arlene (Claude) Rogan, Dolores (Robert) Salmon and Shirley (John) Burg; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters, Dolores Lowry and Barbara Libby; and brother-in-law, Stan Lowry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at ST. PAUL'S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 210 S. Ringold St. Janesville. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY and again on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Lasting memorials may be made to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran School Scholarship Fund or to Camp LUWISOMO.
