Twinkies and Ding Dongs Still Available in Port and Saukville
Hostess Brands announced Friday that it is shutting down operations after 82 years of making Wonder Bread, Twinkies and other iconic snack foods.
It’s not too late to get a Twinkie or Ho-Ho in Port Washington and Saukville, but you might want to hurry.
Hostess Brands, makers of those and other iconic snacks, announced Friday that it filed a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for permission to go out of business. The company failed to reach agreement with striking workers, and now plans to lay off all 18,500 employees and liquidate assets.
A check of four grocery stores in Port Washington and Saukville found product on the shelves everywhere. Joe Sanfilippo of Sentry Foods in Port Washington received some product on Friday, and said the driver made plans for deliveries next week. He did say the company — which also makes Wonder Bread — cut some things earlier in the week.
Wal-Mart, Pick ‘n Save and Piggly Wiggly in Saukville all had Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho-Hos and Zingers on the shelves.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that the remaining Hostess inventory will likely be sold to a big-box store or discounter.

One of the first things my son said to me today was that Hostess was shutting down and that there would be no more Twinkies and Ho Ho's. He was almost horrified. I've never bought them but apparently he has. Food is important to a teen. LOL

I need to buy a box. I'm not sure my kids ever have had them. Not sure which is my favorite. Probably cupcakes -- always felt like you got the most food for your buck. Twinkies are awesome but that's two bites, tops.

Welcome to the second term of Barack Hussein Obama. Companies laying off, cutting jobs, raising gas prices, and now no more twinkies or ho-hos. Where is the America I know going? Down the Barack Toilet.

They first filed for bankruptcy in 2004. If you think its a president's fault then it must be Bush's. But of course people like to blame President Obama for everything.

Nope. Obama has his faults, significant faults, but this one is not his.
You can lay this one clearly at the feet of the Bakers Union. When even your fellow union the teamsters are publicly critical of your failure to negotiate, then you may just indeed be the problem.

No more Twinkies, what will we eat after the nuclear apocalypse?

Unfortunately the true lesson here will be lost in the whole Twinkie Nostalgia wave.
Once again we get to watch a union, oblivious to their role in the companies financial stability, ride the nuclear bomb like Slim Pickens, waving their cowboy hat all the way down. (Dr. Strangelove reference for those unaware)

The unions had their cake and ate it too.
