New Books at the Library to Keep an Eye On!!

Reading in the library has never been better! Great books are being published every day and 2013 is no exception!

2013 is starting off great with new books by authors, both new and known.

If you pay attention to the annual Pulizter Prize winners, you might have noticed this author as being in the running for the prize last year, but for some reason, the prize was not awared to anyone! A bit of a disapointment because her book, Swamplandia!, was such an excelent read. Award or no, I recomend it. I also recomend her newest book, a collection of short stories called Vampires in the Lemon Grove. The first story is the story of the Vampires in the Lemon Grove, and to be honest, I wished she would have continued it. Heartfelt characters in such a quick amount of pages, her short stories are just as wonderful as her long fiction.

A great new read by Danish writer Herman Koch, The Dinner, set in modern day Amsterdam, tells the story of two related couples who meet for dinner at a posh restaurant, with the intent of discussing their children-two cousins of the same age. The narator, the father of one the cousins, tells about the night, the dinner, the past and gives the reader insight to what has happened to both adults and kids. It's hard to write a reveiw without giving details, but all I can say is WOW! The writing is supurb, the characters are flawed and you might not want to read it before bedtime. Like I did.

Another fun read is actually a left over from 2012. Maria Semple's name isn't quite known in the literary circles yet, but she's a big hit with Arrested Development fans as being one of the writers for the late great show. Her Where'd You Go, Bernadette, is both moving and funny as we watch the neurotic, but down-to-earth Bernadette deal with her past and her present and perhaps paving the way for her future. A hit, a fun read and I highly recomend it!

All three books can be found on www.easicat.net. Use your barcode number (on the back of your card) and your pin number (the last four digits of your phone number) to request a copy. Or, you can also find these titles in eBook format on our Overdrive page: dbooks.wplc.info. Same information is used to log in. You can directly download the eBook to your Tablet or eReader device. Not sure how? We have a class coming up on Friday, May 24th at 3 p.m. or stop in the library and we'll give you a quick instruction.
