1 in 79 Wisconsinites Likely to Hit a Deer

State Farm Insurance has announced its annual list of states where "deer-vehicle confrontations are most likely." Find out how Wisconsin ranks nationally, and which state is number 1.

The chance of a Wisconsin motorist hitting a deer is 1 in nearly 79 drivers.

That statistic comes from State Farm Insurance's annual list of states where "deer-vehicle confrontations are most likely," according to a press release from the company.

Wisconsin is considered a high risk state, and ranks 7th among all states in the nation for deer collions, the press release said. The most likely state in which to hit a deer is West Virginia, where your chances are 1 in 40.

Local business Kaliber Collision Repair told Patch last year they often see about one to three cars per week that have collided with a deer in the months of October and November.

October and November constitute the mating season for deer, so the animals are more active at dawn and dusk as they move between the places they eat and their bedding areas.
