A Taste of Giving Back: Community Event Donates to Cancer Organization

The event, One Book One Community: A Taste of Giving Back will take place April 20 in the Thomas Jefferson Middle School cafeteria. The cost will be $10 at the entrance, and benefits the organization This Star Won't Go Out.

Updated 1:27 p.m. Friday, March 15: Several local businesses have joined the list for the The One Book, One Community: A Taste of Giving Back event on April 20.

Original story: Inspired by this year's choice for the One Book, One Community program, Patch as well as the W.J. Niederkorn and Oscar Grady libraries are organizing a tasting event to benefit This Star Won't Go Out, an organization that helps families who have teens or children diagnosed with cancer.

"Caring for a seriously ill child creates tremendous stress for the family system, and having to worry about money is both burdensome and distracting," it says on This Star Won't Go Out's website. "TSWGO's goal is to carry a bit of that burden for hurting families through financial gifts."

The event, One Book One Community: A Taste of Giving Back will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. April 20 in the Thomas Jefferson Middle School cafeteria. The cost will be $10 at the entrance, and that will give attendees a chance to tastes samples from local busineses; all participating businesses are donating their resources to make the event possible.
