About 65% of Patch Readers are OK With Urban Chicken Keeping

A debate about beekeeping in Port Washington got some people talking about other sustainable options; here's the results from this week's Patch Poll.

Port Washington city officials are busy learning more about urban beekeeping after sparked the need for a clear ordinance.

The issue was meeting early in October. Commission member Earl Kelley said he hasn't decided one way or the other whether such "urban agricultural" activities should be allowed in Port, as he wants to do more research.

He does, however, think it would be smart of the city to include more than just beekeeping in their upcoming ordinance.

"I’ve seen several articles here lately about people wanting to raise chickens for the same reason about the beekeeping, and I’m just worrying what else is being considered by different communities," he said. "This would be agreat time for us to get ahead on the issue."
