Community Garden Plans Uprooted, Again

Complaints from residents about possible location causes Parks and Recreation Board to reconsider the original spot.

in Port Washington are once again growing in a different direction.

Derek Strohl and Jason Wittek, organizers of the garden, have been working to get the approval for a site for the garden since spring.

This month, the two presented the board with plans for a garden to be built along the Ozaukee Interurban Trail where it meets up with Hales Trail; the plans included comments from community members .

"The Parks and Recreation Board voted ... to reconsider the Westport Meadows site, pending our ability to come up with a garden space that won't interfere with soccer on the soccer field," Strohl said in an e-mail.

The Parks and Recreation Board's decision came after number of people opposed to a garden along the Ozaukee Interurban Trail where it meets up with Hales Trail voiced their concerns during the meeting, the Ozaukee Press reports. Residents pointed to problems such as traffic issues and aesthetics of the garden at that location.
