Crying for Wolves: Memorial Set for Animals Killed During Statewide Hunt

The Alliance for Animals will be holding a memorial for the 117 wolves killed during Wisconsin's first hunt in fall.

The Alliance for Animals will be holding a memorial for the 117 wolves killed during Wisconsin's first hunt in fall.

Deanna Devaul, an "active" member of the Alliance for Animals, is organizing the event, according to the organization's website. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday in front of the State Natural Resources building in Madison, and will include candles, bell ringing and a poem for the wolves.

"I know that I am not alone in wanting to honor the 117 wolves who were killed in the Wisconsin hunt this year," Devaul wrote on a Facebook page created to publicize the event. "It is our intention to symbolize the wolves' lives and deaths at this memorial."

Wisconsin's first wolf hunt got off to a controversial start, with a lawsuit, filed in Dane County Circuit Court, asking the court "to stop the DNR from authorizing the use of dogs for wolf hunting until reasonable rules are established to protect dogs from injury or death, according to a press release from the society. Other plaintiffs include outdoorsmen, hunters, volunteer trackers, and other Wisconsin animal welfare organizations."

The hunt started Oct. 15 and runs through the end of February; .

And you guys should really stop laughing at your stupid attempt at humor because the only skins most of these crude comments are dredging up are ones you should put over your head and snap out of.
My attempt at your levels of humor. HA!

The right wing fringe is unraveling.here again..loony comparisons of plant life to magnificent carnivores that preserve a bit of what once was in wild America.
Writing ALL DAY and NIGHT on blogs about killing wolves, fondling guns close to their persons, women as bimbos, etc. is obviously a desperate compensating for feelings of inadequacy and smallness by these white suburban "he men" ,that venture to the woods only well armed and half liquored up.
Young Conservative January 10, 2013 at 07:48 pm
This real man is getting ready to go hunting for ruffed grouse this evening. I will certainly be carrying my side arm in case one of these wolves decides to make a play for me as his game.
Young Conservative January 10, 2013 at 07:49 pm
Get back in the kitchen Dirk, your wife will soon be home from a hard days work and you should have dinner done for her.
Craig January 10, 2013 at 07:50 pm
My wife isn't a dumb bitch so there is no reason for me to suggest that.
Young Conservative January 10, 2013 at 07:51 pm
Wolf season ends February 28, 2013 in Wisconsin. Wish me luck this weekend so we can break past the current kill of 117!
Young Conservative January 10, 2013 at 07:54 pm
What a bunch of grumpy spinsters/broads.

Heather, I certainly didn't mean you. I agree with your posts! Well except I have never been called a gentleman before (I am a woman) haha. :)
Dirk Gutzmiller January 10, 2013 at 07:59 pm
Young Conservative - You are a wolf in disguise...thanks for being so obnoxiously conservative that readers turn liberal whenever you write a comment.
Craig January 10, 2013 at 08:02 pm
What do you tell a woman with two black eyes?
Nothing. You already told her twice!
mp January 10, 2013 at 08:10 pm
You little ***, I can't let this one go because you are one of the reason's this world is turning to crap and you are a lonely little imp.
Hmmm lemme guess...you sit in a dark basement or in your bedroom somewhere in here in WI hating life and women because they did you wrong at some point in your life. And with this blog you will really be angry and go hurt a woman because you can. OR IF, and that's a BIG IF you are married you will beat your wife up because it makes you feel like a man....well you need to (and I'm sure alot of people will agree) get help and quit typing because jerks like you get their karma back ten fold....beware ace.
Greg January 10, 2013 at 08:14 pm
What do you have against plants? I thought the far left fringe loved plants, since you think you are hippie flower children.
BTW, the wolf is still wild in America.
Nuitari January 10, 2013 at 08:19 pm
There seems to be some women on here needing a good romping to get some cobwebs out. To think we're not even debating birth control. Wolves must be the next big issue with them.
mp January 10, 2013 at 08:33 pm
You're just a jerk...
Your romping consists of your hand I'm sure.
Dirk Gutzmiller January 10, 2013 at 08:33 pm
YC - If you are going grouse hunting later this evening, as you comment at 2:48pm, and sunset is around 4:36pm today, and grouse hunting season is over in S.E. Wisconsin for the last month, you are a liar.
mp January 10, 2013 at 08:34 pm
And my husband is a REAL man! Maybe you could take some lessons.
Dirk Gutzmiller January 10, 2013 at 08:41 pm
YC - If you do shoot a wolf on your hunt this weekend, be absolutely sure to report it to the DNR, as The 2012-'13 Wisconsin wolf hunting and trapping season ended just before Christmas when the quota was reached.
Dirk Gutzmiller January 10, 2013 at 08:56 pm
Nuitari does not Dance with the Wolves, he Romps with Young Conservative.
Nuitari January 10, 2013 at 09:31 pm
That's quite creative Dirk.
mp, not so much. Try again.
Bren January 10, 2013 at 10:00 pm
mp, the hunt wouldn't have been scheduled if there hadn't been a need to lower the amount of animals in the area. I've always believed that the DNR has done excellent work in monitoring animal populations. A quick, humane death is preferable to being hit by a car or starving to death, isn't it? I don't argue that suburban sprawl has thrown humankind into closer contact with wildlife, but this is the situation we are in.
Craig January 11, 2013 at 12:35 am
Avoiding the answer doesn't do anything to prove your point.
mp January 11, 2013 at 11:20 am
No but YOU are...and you have proven yourself even more than just that with your pathetic name calling.
I bet you call your wife names and rip on her just because it makes you feel good & You teach your kids how to be a total asses and bullies in school. You think you are all that with your shit talk...well here is one for you...youu aren't squat. Karma is a bitch and you watch it..
GearHead January 11, 2013 at 01:02 pm
@Richard: When liberals demand such extermination will we be able to use guns? Probably not, unless we can still use the musket mounted above the fireplace.

To All:
I believe "ann" was a plant, someone who was trying to be over-the-top in order to make the opposition look bad.
