Hawk Lodged in Van Makes Full Recovery

A hawk that had been recovering at Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation since March 25 was released into the wild earlier this week.

The hawk that was injured March 25 after being lodged in the grille of a van just north of I-43 until the driver arrived at her destination — the 1500 block of Portview Drive — was released into the wild on Monday.

The hawk's wing was immobolized for sometime to allow it's shoulder to heal, according to an Ozaukee Press article. The wrap was removed last week, and Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation center staff decided the bird was ready to be set free.

The bird had been struck by a 62-year-old Thiensville woman, according to a police report from the Port Washington Police Department. Police responded at 8:48 a.m. March 25, and were unable to get the bird out of the vehicle's bumper; so, they called the Pineview Wildlife Rehabilitation center, who was also unable to remove the bird.
