Help Poncho: Medical Condition Requires Surgery for Dog at Humane Society

The Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus is treating Poncho for a luxating patella — a condition that causes his kneecap to pop out of place; the society seeks donations for this expensive surgery and aftercare as well as money to help future animals

Editor's note: The following information was provided in a press release from the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus.

The Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus is currently caring for a very special little dog named Poncho. After a journey from another shelter that was unable to find him a home, Poncho still has a long road ahead of him. He has a congenital medical condition — a luxating patella — that causes his kneecap to pop out of place. It's painful, so he walks with a distinct gait in order to avoid pain and discomfort.

Left untreated, Poncho would develop arthritis and his knees would become lame and hurt him even more.

We are making sure that Poncho gets the surgery necessary to repair this condition. It's expensive, but he is worth every penny. The costs associated with Poncho’s veterinary treatment, surgery, hospital stay and adoption services will reach $1,200.

We are currently asking people in the community to help us with his medical costs. Contributions will go directly to Poncho's medical care, and to the care of other animals at the Ozaukee Campus recovering from injuries, illness, and abuse.
