Huge Crowd Expected for Ladies Night in Downtown Port

More than 700 women have preregistered for Tuesdays' Kiss of Indulgence event downtown - a number so large that organizers had to scramble to order extra supplies for those who signed up.

Each woman who preregisters, as well as the first 100 women who stop in at on Tuesday night, are guaranteed to receive a scarf and a bag full of coupons from area businesses and elsewhere, such as $50 discounts off spa treatments and free appetizers.

Maria Kiesow, who is on the board of directors for the Port Washington Main Street Program, which puts on the event, said she originally ordered 800 scarves. So when more than 700 people preregistered, she had to order more — and pay for the rushed shipping to get them here in time. The event costs $5 per person.

The event starts at 5 p.m., though many women show up early at City Hall to get in line and pick up their bags. Those those who are preregistered line up at Lueptow's to collect their goodies.

Fifty-two downtown Port Washington businesses will be a part of the festivities, which Kiesow said is a fun night for women and a way to showcase the downtown area.

"We don’t really make money (from Kiss of Indulgence)," she said. "What it is is just to expose the women to all the different new stores and different things that are in downtown Port Washington. It's just a fun event to promote main street in downtown."

Included with the bag is a map of participating businesses that will direct women to the night's activities, which includes samples throughout the evening from a variety of restaurants, mini-makeovers, chair massages and more.

Columbia St. Mary's will be present with its mobile digital mammography center on wheels. Women can step on the coach bus for a tour and also to schedule a future mammogram appointment.

At 8 p.m., a fashion show will be held in the Lueptow building, put on by and . is providing tuxedos for men in the show. The band Vinyl Groove will play live music near the end of the evening. A bus will also take women between and throughout the night.

Even after the extra scarves and bags are given out to the first 100 nonregistered attendees, women can still stop by the City Hall to pick up maps and participate in the night's activities.
