Kite Fest Event Planned in Port Washington

A Facebook page announces the event set for May 11.

A Kite Fest inspired by a social media conversation is now set to take place in Upper Lake Park on May 11.

Port resident James Meyer, who manages a Facebook page titled, "Port Washington WI," posted a photo of Upper Lake Park showing off the spring weather that has seemingly finally arrived.

Resident Tom Hudson, a former alderman, was inspired by the photo to get the Kite Fest going.Β

"We're starting to get some nicer, breezy days β€” I'm thinking of breaking out some of my kites: 16-foot delta, big "eagle" rokkaku, 5-foot box and a couple of stunt kites. And we need to organize a casual Kite Fly in early May. Anybody up for some kite flying at Upper Lake Park this spring?," Hudson wrote on the post. "Maybe I should just pick a Saturday in May and declare the First Annual Port Washington Spring Kite Fest and see what happens. Maybe May 11?"

And thus Port's first Kite Fest was born. The Facebook page for the event invites anyone to attend.
