National Cat Day: Let's See Those Prrrrrretty Photos

Monday celebrates National Cat Day, asking cat owners to give special recognition to their loving pets and reminding the nation about the issues cats in need of rescue face. Upload your photos to celebrate your cat!

Though some households have both cats and dogs, a lot of people strictly identify themselves as a lover of one or the other — and Monday is a day for those who love the creatures that go "meow," to celebrate.

National Cat Day, founded in 2005 by Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, is meant to recognize the need to save cats in shelters as well as celebrate the relationship between you and your pet, according to NationalCatDay.com.

"Estimates reveal that there are approximately 4 million cats entering shelters every year with 1-2 million being euthanized," according to the website. "Often cats are overlooked and under-appreciated because they don't usually have jobs like dogs. But cats still lower blood pressure, offer unconditional love and companionship and alert their owner of danger."
