Neighbor Reaches Out to Hit-and-Run Victim

Port residents are hoping to send a little cheer to Dolores Kopacz, an 81-year-old in ICU after a hit-and-run incident.

A lot of people may be home for the holidays, sharing in the joy of celebrating the season together β€” but not everybody is so fortunate.

This year, some local residents are thinking of Dolores Kopacz, an 81-year-old woman . Kopacz remains.

Sue Ropiak, who's daughter, Jen Rudser, lives near Kopacz and often sees her out with her dog, Sadie, went to visit Kopacz in the hospital.

"We went to visit her in the ICU at Froedert Hospital. She was in good spirits, but very banged up," Sue Ropiak said in an e-mail. "She doesn't have much family here in Port."

Kopacz's son lives out of state, and is unable to travel here to see his mother in the hospital because his wife recently underwent surgery, Ropiak said. She has a sister-in-law who lives in Oak Creek that visited when Ropiak did, and a brother-in-law who lives in Grafton.

Other than that, it seems Kopacz's Christmas is going to be spent in the ICU. Ropiak is hoping Port residents will reach out to Kopacz to add some cheer back into what is likely a gloomy weekend.

"It's not too late to send her a Christmas card ... so Get Well cards and Christmas cards would be nice," Ropiak said. "Eventually she'll get out of ICU and be in a regular room, and the mail room at the hospital will get all her cards to her."

If you would like to send a card to Kopacz, use the following address:
