Saukville Lions Club Honors Local Member with Highest Award

Harland Meins has had perfect attendance to the club's meetings and worked in every event the local chapter has held since opening in 1998.

The Saukville Lions Club met Wednesday night at in Saukville to bestow its highest form of recognition, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, to Harland Meins.

The award recognizes outstanding individuals who embody the humanitarian nature and purpose of Lions International.

Meins is one of the founding fathers of the Saukville Lions Club, which was founded in 1998, and only the third member in the club to receive the award. He has had perfect attendance to meetings and worked in every event the local chapter has ever had.

The award is named after the founder of Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world. The motto of the Lions is "we serve," and the local chapter has 30 members.

The Lions also installed new officers for the group's 2011-12 year.
