Volunteer Center Keeps More Than One Ton of Electronics Out of Landfills

Ozaukee County center holds recycling event every spring and fall.

Thanks to an effort by the Volunteer Center of Ozaukee County in Grafton, more than 2,500 pounds of outdated or unusable electronics will be disposed of properly rather than filling up landfills across the county.

"We filled a semi-trailer with computers, TVs, microwaves and other electronics," Brenda Peterson, the executive director of the Volunteer Center, said in a press release. "This represents more than a ton of materials that did not end up in landfills and instead will be recycled for reuse or safe disposal of toxic materials."

Sixteen volunteers helped with the recycling effort on April 5, according to the release.

"I'd like to thank all our volunteers who did an outstanding job," Peterson said.

The recycling event is held every spring and fall; Ozaukee County residents who missed this round can bring their items to the fall event on October 7 and 8.
