Will You Enjoy the 61st Annual Smelt Fry this Weekend?

The annual American Legion Smelt Fry will take place on both Friday and Saturday.

The American Legion Van-Ells-Schannen Post 82 in Port is hosting the this weekend.

For just $10, attendees will enjoy all-you-can-eat smelt as well as one complimentary beverage (soda/beer).

The fry started as a fundraiser by legion members to benefit their drum and bugle corps, according to an article published in the Ozaukee Press around last year's fry. The fry has grown from hundreds to thousands in its 60 years.

Many people bring their own homemade condiments to share — bet someone asks you for your recipe! And don't be surprised if someone comes over to check and make sure you ate the tails."

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday and 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The legion is located at 435 N. Lake St. Call (262)-284-4690 with questions.
