Memories to bring a little bit of Dixie to Theater in the Round

Forget 3D movies, with Theater in the Round, technology is irrelevant as the audience is dropped directly into the scene of the show.

With "The Dixie Swim Club," opening Friday at Memories, a low-rise polygonal stage is set in the middle of the ballroom with the audience positioned around all sides. This allows all audience members to be within 18 feet of the stage, and the actors to work all angles of the set like they would in real life, making for a unique and intimate theater experience.

"Dixie Swim Club," written by Hope, Jones, and Wooten, and directed by Rolland Roebuck, is the humorous yet poignant story of five southern women, friends since college, who meet at the same beach cottage every August to catch up, laugh, and meddle in each other’s lives.  The story follows the strength of the women’s friendships over the next 33 years, through all the challenges life flings at them.

"Dixie" will run weekends Feb. 3 through Feb. 12. While this is the first time Memories will produce a show "in the round" during its regular dinner theater season, it will still feature the signature Memories buffet dinner with a Southern menu created specially for this show, including spinach salad with bacon dressing, corn meal muffins, country fried steak with gravy, pulled pork, sweet potatoes, baked wild rice, vegetable blend, fluff and bread pudding.

Tickets are $30 for dinner and show, or $17 for show-only, and can be purchased online or via phone at 262-284-6850.
