Port A Capella Group Earns Third at Regionals

With an almost entirely new group, Port Washington High School's Limited Edition takes third at the regional competition.

After traveling to DeKalb, IL, to defend their regional title, Port Washington High School’s a capella group Limited Edition returned home as third-place winners for the Midwest Regional in the International Championship of High School A Capella.

Although the group did not place first like last year, director and Port Washington High School music teacher Dennis Gephart was very pleased with the group’s performance.

“I think they did a great job,” he said.

This year, Limited Edition performed several numbers, one of which was a medley of pop songs like Katy Perry’s “Hot and Cold” and The All American Rejects’ “Swing Swing.”

Limited Edition scored below an all male and an all female choir in the regional competition.  These were both “very different groups” from Limited Edition, a mixed choir, according to Gephart.  Variations like these make the competition difficult to judge in his estimation.

But Gephart and his students are happy with the outcome, although “not as happy as when they took first,” he said.
