2013 Lakeshore Lacrosse Season Finally Underway

The Lakeshore Ripsharks varsity lacrosse team is off to a 2-0 start in the 2013 season.

After the cancellation of two intrasquad scrimmages, one intersquad scrimmage and the postponement of their first game, the Lakeshore Ripsharks high school lacrosse team finally got their season underway with a 6-5 win over Brookfield on Friday, April 12.

Because bad weather caused the loss of all scrimmages and most of the outdoor practices, the game was predictably sloppy and offensively cautious at times.  In addition, both teams were a bit over-aggressive defensively and combined for 19 penalties.

Port Washington High School senior co-captain and two time all-conference midfielder, Dakota Kwasny led all scorers with 2 goals and an assist in his first game as an attackman.  Homestead junior co-captain and returning all-conference midfielder, Quinten Zeigler had a goal and 2 assists and dominated the faceoffs, winning 8 of 12 draws.  Homestead junior Max Woody had a goal and an assist.  Whitefish Bay junior Michael Kim had a goal as did Nicolet junior John Jaekels.

Whitefish Bay goalie and co-captain Quinn Mooney made a dozen saves.

On Tuesday, April 16 the Ripsharks outworked Mukwonago and coasted
to a 5-1 victory.  The Ripsharks won the battle for 35 of the 49 groundballs and the defense allowed only 7 shots on goal.  Ziegler once again dominated the faceoff X and won 6 of 8 draws.  Kwasny again led all scorers with 2 goals and two assists.  Homestead junior Jake Hansen had a goal and an assist.  Jaekels and Nicolet senior Dan Wheeler rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
