#8 Lakeshore Ripsharks beat #9 Madison Westside in a nail biter

Lakeshore lacrosse enters home stretch with win over 9th ranked Madison Westside.

  The 8th ranked Lakeshore Ripsharks lacrosse team picked up two more wins last week.  The Ripsharks Started the week with an 11-7 win over Catholic Memorial and wrapped up with a 6-5 win over Madison Westside.

  On Tuesday night, the Ripsharks faced Catholic Memorial in Waukesha.  The Ripsharks scored early and often and built an 8-1 halftime lead.  The Lakeshore lead proved to be insurmountable but, lackluster play in the second half allowed Catholic Memorial to close the gap.

  Jake Hansen and Dan Wheeler led the Ripsharks scoring attack with a hat trick each.  John Jaekels had 2 goals and Dakota Kwasny, Max Woody and Riley Sellinger had one each.  Sellinger, Michael Kim, Quinten Zeigler, Ryan Jacobus and Evan Heimerl each had an assist.

  Zeigler won 5 of the 6 faceoffs he took and goalie Quinn Mooney made 9 saves.

  On Saturday afternoon, the 9th ranked team from Madison Westside came to Nicolet to face the Ripsharks in a physical, back and forth battle that was in doubt right to the final horn.

  Westside scored the first goal of the game with 1:40 left on the clock in the first quarter.  47 seconds later, John Jaekels scored his first of two goals on the day to close out the first quarter in a tie.  Madison Westside scored the only goals of the second period and took a 3-1 lead into the half.

  Lakeshore returned the favor in the third quarter on goals by Jake Hansen and Max Woody.  In the fourth quarter Madison scored first as the two teams traded goals, with Jaekels and Hansen finding the back of the net for the Ripsharks.  With 1:12 remaining, Dakota Kwasny scored what proved to be the game winner.

  The game was still in doubt until Alec Monaghan came up with a big defensive play and sent the ball out to midfield where Kwasny was able to scoop up the ground ball and run out the clock for a 6-5 victory.

  Quinten Zeigler led the Ripsharks with 3 assists while Sellinger and Kim had one each.  Quinn Mooney made 11 saves on the day.

  On Monday night the Ripsharks hit the road to take on Franklin at the Milwaukee Sports Complex.  On Wednesday the Ripsharks head to Carroll College to take on 7th ranked Waukesha and on Friday night, top ranked and undefeated Arrowhead comes to Shorewood High School at 8:00 to do battle with Lakeshore.
