Ripshark's Lacrosse Season Ends in Second Round of State Playoffs

In round one of the Wisconsin high school lacrosse playoffs, the Lakeshore Ripsharks had a rematch of their final game of the season. On Tuesday, May 28, Kenosha made their second trip to Shorewood High School in a week and put up a much better fight the second time in town. Unfortunately for Kenosha, they ran into the Max Woody show.
Kenosha jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter lead over the apathetic Ripsharks. With 2:30 left in the quarter, Woody took over and scored his first of five goals on the night. In addition to goals in each quarter, he added an assist and did the dirty work by scooping up four loose balls.
The team's leading scorers on the season, Dakota Kwasny and John Jaekels had two goals each. Riley Sellinger, Evan Heimerl and Patchen Tews each found the back of the net once. Sellinger, Jaekels and Dan Wheeler each had an assist.
Luke Zoromski once again anchored the defense and scooped up six ground balls of his own. Goalie Quinn Mooney made 10 saves in the 12-5 Lakeshore win.
On Thursday, Lakeshore traveled to Waunakee to face the 9th ranked Warriors. The Ripsharks and Warriors scored an equal number of goals in three of four quarters, with Waunakee outscoring Lakeshore in only the second quarter.
After playing to a 1-1 draw in the first quarter on a Dan Wheeler goal, Max Woody scored the go ahead goal 57 seconds into the second period. Unfortunately, Wanakee scored 3 unanswered goals going into the half.
In the third quarter, Waunakee scored the first two goals to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Then the momentum swung hard as John Jaekels scored two goals just 46 seconds apart. Then Mother Nature entered to scene.
With :41 left in the third quarter, a line of storms moved into the area with significant amounts of lightning. By the time the storm lessened, the light-less field was too dark to play on and the game had to be suspended.
When play resumed on Saturday morning, the two teams played a very physical final 12:41 of lacrosse. Each team managed to score once, with the final Ripshark's goal of the season coming from Dakota Kwasny off of a nice pass from Quinten Ziegler.
With the 7-5 win, Waunakee advanced to a third round match-up against Appleton on Monday night. The Ripsharks finish the season with a 13-6 record and ranked 11th in the state.
