Just Can't Find the Logic Behind Concealed Carry

Has anybody who supports conceal carry ever actually been in a situation where having a gun would have made things better?

Reading replies to articles on has been an eye opener. I had no idea what a fearful insecure bunch of citizens I live amongst.

It sounds as though they not only believe that we live in some sort of Mad Max sort of town, but that they actually like it. I have been blogging about this issue, an issue which isn't on the agendas of most of the civilized countries in this world, and you know I am for open carry — as long as your weapon is a medieval siege weapon of some kind.

You could roll big logs with stakes in them down the road, ready to douse them with oil and set them ablaze. You could put your trebuchet on a utility trailer and drag it around or perhaps keep a huge cauldron of oil simmering, ready to douse the bad guys you know are out there. I have explained this.

This idea that we need to all have guns available at any time, anywhere, is — to my mind — the thinking of people who want to fight or who are excessively fearful. May I ask you folks who insist on having nonhunting firearms concealed ... how many of you were accosted by someone in your life when having that weapon would have prevented the crime that occurred?

And, among the very few who can honestly claim to be victims of a preventable attack, how many are sure that getting into an exchange of fire would have lessened the damage done? My 86-year-old dad would say, "Well, it could always happen."

It hasn't so far, of course.

I think the real point here is that you guys just want to be cowboys, you like the power you feel with weapon on you. Makes you feel tough — although what is tough about being able to point a machine at someone and pull a small lever, defeats my imagination. That our governor wants to remove the requirement for training on these weapons is further evidence of his respect for education and lack of knowledge regarding gun safety. IMO. Don't shoot boys.
