The Friendliest Man in Port

Shout out to the happy crossing guard who doesn't miss a beat.

What is the scoop on the crossing guard on the northern route in and out of Port? I pass this guy four times a day, minimum, and he waves to literally every car going either way ... an endless procession of vehicles.

He is the friendliest man in Port hands down ... or hands up in this case. Speaking of which, this guy's right arm must either be incredibly strong or very sore. We are talking about raising one arm up and down and up and down, maybe twenty times a minute for hours! Twice a day. Five days a week.

Adding to this amazing feat — and it is a feat — he looks at the drivers and gives each a beaming smile! There is nothing you can do but smile back and wave — it is completely contagious.

We hear a lot of talk about contagious diseases, about bad things that can be spread. I heard once that health, too, is contagious. The point was made that being near to healthy people actually has a positive, if mild, contagious effect on a person. I can attest to the fact that this man is spreading smiles — every day — and that his action, literally taking to the streets and smiling at people ... is both radical, positive and effective.

Thanks Mr. Crossing Guard! A shout out to you!

If anyone can fill me in on more of his story — I would be glad to have it. I think this guy deserves a civic medal or the key to the city or something! A good man!
