The First International Year of Good Things

I have a proposal to make. What if the nations of the world devoted one year to doing good things? Imagine... 2014, the first Year Of Good Things! The nations of the world could agree to postpone war, to share science and medicine, to travel young people to distant countries in major cultural exchanges, to consolidate efforts to feed the famished, to collaborate on eradicating controllable diseases...and on and on! Why not??? Everyone benefits! One year of good stuff! Why is this too much to ask?

We are trained to think that ideas like this are crazy. But, to my mind, what is crazy is the normal process of various powers trying to compete globally for economic superiority or traction, periodically getting into lethal conflicts, dragging religion into the mix, and generally wasting huge amounts of money, time and human power on things that do not lead to overall progress.

I invite you to think about what we could do, institute, collaborate on... if the year 2014, was designated, internationally, as the YEAR OF GOOD THINGS. There are no wars that year, we focus on reaching out and interacting with everyone we can, look at the most serious of world problems and address those in concert. What do you think?
