Why Attacking Syria isn't Saving Syria

I am more than amazed at the apparent inertness of the North American public. We are being taken for fools by our President, by leaders of both parties. They are telling baldfaced lies to garner support for their latest foreign caper, an attack, if not invasion, of Syria. The pretext is a familiar saw: we are going to save the civilians oppressed by a merciless despot. The implicit presumption, likewise, has been part of the song sung to us throughout our lives: the US is the policeman of the planet. We are destined to combat crimes against humanity wherever they occur. And the way we invariably do this, is by huge force. We go kill people. This agenda is an irony we are asked to swallow with no historic validation. In recent history we cant look back and say, "My how many lives were saved with our invasion of Vietnam," or "See the freedom we created in Afghanistan and Iraq with our trillion dollar campaign?" Violence has bred violence. Wars solve nothing. Civilians do not benefit and are not saved. Instead they become statistics in the grist mill of huge economic agendas...they are ground up, displaced, destroyed and disappeared....and this by the millions. So who believes these lies? In Syria the "logic" is presented that Assad must be punished for killing civilians. How will this occur? We will send waves od cruise missiles (to begin with) into the country, a country where two million people are currently trying to flee for their lives. That will punish him! This is a damned lie. Our attack will infuriate a fascist despot who is in a desparation effort, killing his people, to retain his power. It will underscore support for all anti-american movementa large and small, will aid the efforts of terrorists and, above all, will kill untold numbers of civilians directly and countless more indirectly will become refugees to countries that dont want them. But guess what? The President and John McCain dont give a damn if you or I think this is wacko, let alone a crime against humanity. They KNOW we are asleep... That we are snoozing in our comfortable lives or busy trying to patch together next months rent if we are uncomfortable in this economy. They know we wont look into these issues, weigh their words, question their authority. They count on our voluntary submission to whatever Washington decides. And they go on slinging lies, huge lies, real bald- faced brazen lies. War is good business. The trillion plus dollars that Iraq and Afghanistan required didnt go to soldiers or even to their adequate protection. Think about it? Who profitted from those wars? Not the suicidal vets who returned home broken souls from learning that protecting freedom evidently meant killing civilians in another land... Not the civilians who died in carpet bombing of a scale not witnessed prior, or those burned to cinders in Fallujahs as revenge for their killing handfuls of our mercenaries...the Blackwater killers. Not you or I. We are not safer for those wars. And there is no less terror... The people who make the machines of war profit, the people who make the goods and supplies of war profit, the people who take care of the enormous logistics of war profit and the people who get contracts to rebuild everything we have destroyed profit enormously....the Haliburtons and the Bechtels of the empire. Ad of course they are not people...they are corporations, US corporations and the oligarchs in the uppermost offices. And their chairmen and board members become Vice Presidents and Secretaries of State. War is such a huge business it is its own market. It is invested in. But lets go back to the rationale...to the plan. Whoops...there isnt one! There is no plan here beyond send a bunch of cruise missiles into a country in which civilians are counted fair game. There is no timetable, no explanation offered as to how such a violent action will positively change the situation for Syrians. Its as though our leaders have concluded that making the case for their agendas is a total waste of time! They are talking to a nation in a trance. Why stir us up with messy thoguhts about what they are going to do? We are watching football...we are watching cop shows. We are laughing at inanities! Please dont bother us! No...this is terrorism...global terrorism. The "punishment" wont touch Assad. He wont miss a meal unless they accidentally kill him. The people punished are those we say we want to save. The people near military intallations...the people in the wrong place. The people fleeing the monumental force and violence headed their way. In fact we are told, because we are such idiots, that they do not want to change the regime! They must laugh about this after press conferences. Its so preposterous to attack a country because its dictator is a mad dog and, at the same time pronounce that you have no intention to oust him! What the h-ll is that? Well I am going to say it for my part as loudly as I can. Mr. President, elected leaders, your rationale is a pack of lies. You are disrespecting 75% of the US public that does not agree with attacking Syria and you are doing so because you count on us to act like the sheep we are... doing nothing, saying nothing, not dissenting... Your agendas are mad, sirs and maams. They are reckless on a global scale and your methods are increasingly global, sanctioned, systematized terrorism. The world sees this even if a populace saturated by an unfree press and choked on its own material dreams, does not. This is the flailing of a decadent empire... This is Nero burning down the city while playing his violin. I am not party to this and I hope to god there are more who will go on record speaking out against this madness.
