"Help Wanted" a Good Sign

Job openings reported increased for the second month in a row, and "Help Wanted" signs are popping up in downtown Port.

"Job openings rose by 99,000 to 3.1 million in March, the Labor Department said. ... That's the highest level of openings since September 2008 and the second straight monthly increase," according to a recent AP article.

Job openings reported have increased for the second month in a row?! While it is hard to say that two increases in a row is a trend, it is an improvement and possibly a sense of direction in the overall economy after many months of ups and downs with no clear direction.

Prior to seeing this article, I noticed the appearance of "Help Wanted" signs gracing the doors of several of the downtown businesses in Port Washington, much  like the dandelions sprouting up in my yard, finally.

Locally, is this a sign that business conditions have improved in downtown, or is this the pre-season hiring required in anticipation of summer crowds? Either way, my perception is that the appearance of the "Help Wanted" signs are a good sign of things to come, unlike the aforementioned dandelions.
