Allen Edmonds Collecting Shoes to Help Victims of Japan Disaster

Company is teaming up with Soles4Souls program.

What would you do with 100,000 pairs of shoes?

Soles4Souls and ' shoe company have committed to donating up to that number of pairs of shoes to victims of the earthquake and tsunami that recently shook Japan, according to a press release from the two organizations.

“In response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Allen Edmonds will continue collecting shoes at our stores for Soles4Souls to send to those affected in Asia,” Paul Grangaard, president and CEO of Allen Edmonds, said in the press release. “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Soles4Souls and help the people of Japan in this critical time.”

Allen Edmonds, 201 E. Seven Hills Rd., Port Washington, will accept donations at its retail and outlet stores across the nation, and any brand or men's, women's or kid's shoes will be accepted.

Allen Edmonds was founded in 1992 as a premium men's footwear and accessories manufacturer, according to the release. The footwear is handcrafted in Port Washington.

Soles4Souls recycles and reuses shoes donated by companies and individuals, and has donated more than 13.7 million pairs of new and gently used shoes, according to the release.

"Vital in the wake of natural disasters, shoes protect feet from hazardous debris and prevent the spread of disease," the release said. "All shoes donated at any of the Allen Edmond’s drop-off locations will be given to Soles4Souls, contributing to the relief efforts."
