Charter Fishing in Port: C&D's Biersach a Lifelong Fisherman

C&D Charters Captain Chad Biersach has fished in Port Washington since he was "three feet tall," and he calls Port the perfect fishing community.

For Captain Chad Biersach, fishing in Port Washington has been a lifelong endeavor.

"(I came to) family picnics (in Port) to start off with, fishing off the pier," Biersach said. "I bought my first boat when I was 21, and I've been fishing out on the lake ever since."

Biersach, a captain for C&D Charters (based in the Port marina) and president of the Charter Captain's Association in Port, makes charter fishing his full-time job. He said his dedication to his two boats sets him apart from other charter fishing businesses.

"I take a lot of pride in cleaning and maintenance of my two boats," Biersach said, "along to attention to details with customers."

Rates for C&D start at $430 for a 5-hour trip with up to six people. He has two boats, 41 and 34 feet. Complete rate information can be found on the C&D Charters website.

For Biersach, Port Washington is the perfect fishing town, with a community built around the lake and the fishing scene.

"It's just a small town feel, and that's what people like," he said, adding that many local businesses cater to fishers, who ostensibly help the town. "The fishing here is one of the best in Wisconsin. We have a deep water port, and we don't have to travel far to get to fishing. That makes a big difference."

Biersach focuses on fishing even during the winter months, when he works on his boats and attends fishing shows, "getting the word out about Port Washington."

As for his favorite part of his line of work, Biersach enjoys "seeing people catch the biggest fish of their lives, usually, and showing them a different experience, a different kind of fishing."
