'Green' Mechanics to Set Up Shop in Port Washington

Two Ozaukee County natives plan to open the new automotive repair shop in April.

Two Ozaukee County natives will soon be the joint owners of a new automotive shop with a focus on "green" practices.

David Mayworm and Charles Isaacson hope to open Lighthouse Auto Care in early April as a "full service automotive repair and maintenance facility," according to the building permit application. The name for the business is pending a state application.

The new shop will also focus on using recycled parts and fluids, as well as being responsible with recycling of basic packaging materials such as cardboard and plastic.

"(Being 'green' is) something that I've always kind of pushed for," Isaacson said. The two have been working on cars together in a shared space for about four years, but recently decided to open a full-time shop together.

"We just want to become a part of the community and be a reputable business," Mayworm said.

Mayworm's dad owns an automotive shop in Germantown, and his grandfather also worked as a mechanic.

"I guess since cars have been around its (been) in my family," he said.

Beyond the environmentally friendly focus, Isaacson and Mayworm said they plan to set their shop apart from others already in Port by offering great prices, quality parts and a more technologically-aware business model.

Mayworm envisions using text messages to send photos to help customers better understand repairs needed on their cars, and also to allow customers to use texts in setting up appointments and other reasons for communicating.

Before opening, however, the two said they'll have a few renovations to complete.

"I kind of want the waiting room to feel like a living room and be comfortable," Mayworm said. The new owners will get the keys to the location on March 1.
