'Hounds and Sounds' Raises $4,000 for Animals in Need

The fundraising events featured local restaurants and musicians, but the stars were the animals at the Ozaukee County Humane Society.

Tails are wagging after the success of the musical series hosted by the Wisconsin Humane Society-Ozaukee Campus.

Over the course of three events this fall, about 350 attendants helped raise more than $4,000 for the animals at the humane society. The Ozaukee Campus' new location opened in March at 630 W. Dekora St. in Saukville.

The proceeds raised will help cover the costs to take in strays and surrendered animals, care for the animals, and provide any surgeries they may need.

“We were very pleased with all three events,” Cherisse Le Jeune of the Wisconsin Humane Society-Ozaukee Campus said. “We have a lot of people to thank, including the great musicians who donated their time and talents: Maple Road, Gary Haseley and String-A-Long."

Visitors had the opportunity to explore the center and meet some of the animals available for adoption, while sampling food from a variety of area restaurants.

“The food was amazing and we are so grateful to the local restaurants who donated all the food for the event,” Le Jeune said.

Le Jeune said the events encouraged people to visit the humane society who might not have otherwise made the trip.

“The event was organized partially to attract new visitors to the Ozaukee Campus and indeed, we met many new folks who had never been inside the shelter since we opened in March," she said. "What was even more wonderful was that they returned for another concert, or even two!”

Organizers at the Wisconsin Humane Society-Ozaukee Campus said the inaugural event went so well, they will be sure to bring it back for anyone who missed it this year.

“Next summer, we’d like to make Hounds and Sounds even bigger and better. Stay tuned,” Le Jeune said.
