With the Aug. 14 primaries less than three weeks away, Wisconsin GOP candidate for U.S. Senate and former Gov. Tommy Thompson announced an economic plan that his campaign says will ease regulations on businesses.
During a Madison press conference Monday, Thompson described the economy as "hamstrung by debt and regulation," and he described his five-point plan — called "Restore America" — that includes repealing the Affordable Care Act, following Rep. Paul Ryan's proposed budget and enacting tax reform.

"We're all here today because we share a common concern and a common belief, our concern is that our nation is on the brink with a stagnant economy and unsustainable debt load, we're on a path we simply cannot continue," Thompson was quoted in a press release. "Yet our belief is that the brightest days for America can still be ahead of us if we have the courage to enact the right solutions."
Here's a breakdown of the proposed plan:
- Repealing the Affordable Care Act
- "Cap revenues and spending"
- Tax reform, including a 25 percent corporate rate, a flat tax option for individuals and a lower capital gains tax
- Energy independence
- Passing a budget in the Senate
"We have a choice to make in just under three weeks, and another one in November. I have both the plan for tomorrow and the experience putting our state back to work to get our country back on track," Thompson's statement read. "We need to get our economy moving, which starts with growing business and not government — lower taxes and less regulation."

James R Hoffa 6:24 pm on Saturday, July 28, 2012 @morninmist - Calling me a teabagger isn't a good way to try and win me over. I was actually just checking out Tammy's website. She appears to have a lot of interest in the City of La Crosse for some reason, even though it's not in her congressional district. "Let’s make sure the people of La Crosse and all of Wisconsin know who’s not fighting for them." Why the strange obsession with the City of La Crosse? Is this some kind of liberal code?
Tammy Baldwin @TammyBaldwinWI RT @samcornaleOFA #Tammentum? #Baldwinning? RT @ppppolls According to Rasmussen Tammy Baldwin has gained 23 pts on Tommy Thompson in 6 weeks
; )
As with the other issues, I'm not wasting time on your requests since you won't read them through anyway. You probably aren't even reading this part now! I could write anything and you'll respond with a two-post commentary with a name-call or accusation at the bottom. ; )
Who's skimming/skipping exactly - not Hoffa! Try again!
Hoffa did review Tammy's website in detail for content - that's how Hoffa knew that she was strangely interested in the City of La Crosse, even though it's outside her current district. Very strange isn't it? Why La Crosse? Is that some kind of liberal code? I'm thinking that the polls in La Crosse need to monitored very closely this November! How many lefties from Minnesota will be voting at those polls in this election? I wonder...
Seeing as how Tammy isn't on the ballot to retain her seat in the House, I hope that she has a plan B to fall back on after she loses in November.
...Baldwin's latest television commercial focuses on her work in Congress to get the U.S. Coast Guard to "buy American." In the ad, Baldwin explains that, while Coast Guard cutters are "built in America," they are "powered by engines manufactured overseas." Baldwin wants to change this circumstance. That's why she has sponsored "buy American" legislation that would require the Coast Guard to buy engines from American companies. Since Wisconsin is a boat-building and engine-making state, Baldwin is not just taking the right stand for America. She is taking the right stand for Wisconsin workers. "While the Coast Guard protects our shores, we can also protect our jobs," explains the congresswoman. That's a winning message for the Democrat. So, while the Republicans are spouting the usual free-trade nonsense and making the case for why electing any of them as senator would be a bad idea, Baldwin is making a case for herself that appeals across lines of partisanship and ideology. That's a big part of why she is pulling ahead. GOP "circular firing squad" lol. Apparently, you've never visited Tammy's website. After the donation page, the first thing you see are attacks against the GOP candidates! Epic fail on this one - try again!
Hoffa sent an email as you suggested. We'll see what happens.
you can be fairly silly -or naive at times. Why do you keep asking why Baldwin is interested in the Lacrosse area and ask if it is a liberal code? The area went to Kloppenberg in April and recalled Kapenke in the summer of 2011. Than it went purplish red for Walker in the recall. She is working to make it blue again. No conspiracy theory in her plan--just in your teabagger brain.
Tammy is helping people in Wisconsin - from Tammy's list of major accomplishments, listed on her house webpage, she boasts of bringing over $100 million federal dollars to her district to support important projects. Quick addition shows over $25 million of that money going to bike path and trail projects. Laudable I'm sure, but 25% of her good deeds?
What are you talking about? La Crosse County went for Barrett in the recall 51.8% to Walker's 47.5%. Are the lefty-liberal websites/blogs giving you some bad info again?
Didn't the GOP led House just vote and pass a bill that would audit the Federal Reserve? If it stalls in the Senate, I think we all know what side of the aisle will be responsible, won't we?
Yes, Ed Thompson did have a much better platform and was unwavering in his commitment to it. But because of Ed, we got stuck with Doyle for 8 years!
