'Up North' Gallery Opens on Friday

Duluth Trading Company sponsors the newest exhibit to come to Gallery 224 in hopes of helping to spread the word after joining the community.

An opening reception for the Gallery 224 "Up North" exhibit begins at 5 p.m. Friday, with eight featured artists.

"Gallery 224 is a beautiful gallery overlooking the Port Washington marina," according to its website. "Its purpose is to provide a space where emerging artists and art students can show their work alongside established artists. Exhibitions are curated in a way that teach and inform the viewer, while inspiring and challenging them."

The gallery, 224 E. Main St., has had seven exhibits since it first opened its doors in summer 2011. Newly-opened Duluth Trading Company Principal Owner Steve Schlecht thought the exhibit's theme fit well with the company β€” "as hunting, fishing and the related activities are an important part of (the company's customers') lives."

"Being new to the community, we're happy to help spread the word about the exhibit and encourage our customers to visit while they are in the area," the company told Patch in an e-mail.
