Tyler Buczek's Funeral Set for Wednesday

A ceremony for the 15-year-old boy who died while swimming in Lake Michigan will be held at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington on Wednesday.

Services for 15-year-old Tyler Buczek, who died while swimming in Lake Michigan over the Labor Day weekend, will start at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The visitation will be held in the gymnasium at the , from 3 until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Buczek's obituary, posted on Poole Funeral Home's website. Mass will begin at 7:30 p.m. at ; those wishing to bring a dessert can do so starting at 5 p.m.

"The family invites visitors to bring a nonperishable food donation to the Gym to be given to the Port Washington Food Pantry," according to the obituary. "A memorial fund has been established in Tyler’s name at the ."

Buczek had been swimming off North Beach with a group of friends on Sunday when the current took him.Β He went missing at 2:39 p.m., according to Ozaukee dispatchers. An intense, two-day search between the south end of North Beach and down the breakwall was unsuccessful, Port Fire Chief Mark Mitchell said. His body was found on Thursday.

"Tyler was a great and influential person, friend and a great teammate," Chandler Fischer, a friend and fellow freshmen football team player, told Patch in an e-mail. "He always went slow and told the team what was happening and what we were going to do. He was a great friend and was always looking out for everyone else and was always caring others."
