With Hunters Away, the Rest Will Play

Some fun ideas for things to do this weekend, besides staying home and feeling left behind.

At loose ends this weekend while your spouse or significant other tramps around in the woods for the opening of the gun-deer hunt season?

Here are a few things in the area to keep you busy.

Shop til the Deer Drop. Get a head start on your holiday shopping. Attend the Winter Farmers’ Market Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or the holiday open house and vendor fair the Heron Bay Banquet Hall on Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Take a hike. Mild fall weather is expected this weekend. Wear blaze orange if you’re going to walk in an area where there may be hunters. Don’t forget blaze orange for your dog, too, a bandana or a vest.

Go to a movie. Marcus Theaters still has tickets available for Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Create a holiday memory. Hunting widows and their dogs are invited to Dawgs in Motion to create a holiday memory photo with Legacy Photography. Call for an appointment. Hunting widows can have fun while watching their pup enjoy swim time in the pool.

Have a (home) spa day. It might be too late to make reservations but there’s no reason you can’t pamper yourself. Bubble bath, quiet music and maybe a glass of wine can ease the tension of the week away.
