Benifits of Hypnosis

Hypnosis has many benifits. Hypnosis is not like it is portrayed in Hollywood. A person does not loose control of their own mind. Hypnosis is a natural process which we drift in and out of several times a day. One example of hypnosis is driving to work. As we drive to work and arrive to work, we don't remember all the details of the trip and still make it there. Most likely we were in a state of trance while driving.  Trance is that fine area between being completely awake and falling asleep. Our brain produces theta waves which opens our subconsious mind. This is the part of the brain where our automatic habits are stored and all of our experiences, opinions, learned behavior our stored.

Smoking is a habit that is formed over a period of time. It is stored in the subconcious mind. Smoking cessation is a benifit of hypnosis.  A person seeking to quit smoking may visit a hypnotist as a last resort.  What happens during a smoking cessation session? The hypnotist talks to the client and ask how old they were when they had that first cigarette. Usually they are sneaking a relative's cigarette and were curious. The client is asked what situations cause then to want to have a cigarette. Usually it is stress and/or a social ritual that is soothing. Most smokers report getting a boost of energy after having a cigarette. They need it to get through the day. Smokers burn an extra 250 calories a day from the nicotine. Nicotine actually increases the body's metabolism.
People who want to quit go through a smoking cessation protocol which takes about 3 sessions depending on the hypnotist. Everyone has unique circumstances. The hypnosis session is taylored to the individual's needs. Post hypnotic suggestions are given during the session which replace the old habits with new habits. This is ascimulated into the subconsious mind. They hypnotist may provide a reenforcement cd to listen to at home for about 20 days. Some people combine hypnosis with niccorette or nicotine replacement therapy which is good for people who have a dependency to nicotine. This would be provided by a physician. Hypnosis does not replace medical care. Everyone should continue to see their doctor and follow their instructions.
