May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor! The Hunger Games Opens Thursday night

Get ready citizens of Panem (and Wisconsinites), The Hunger Games opens this weekend!

Get ready citizens of Panem (and Wisconsinites), The Hunger Games opens this weekend! This blogger has been excited for the past few months and now can’t wait for the midnight showing, which start this Thursday night at midnight at local theatres!

For those who have not heard of the movie, The Hunger Games is a highly anticipated movie based on the series of young adult books written by Suzanne Collins.

The stories take place in a post-apocalyptic North American continent now named Panem. The continent has been divided into 12 districts and is ruled by an unforgiving government in the Capital which is now set in Colorado. The government forces two tributes from each district one boy and one girl ages 12 to 18 to compete in yearly a fight-to –the-death competition/reality show called The Hunger Games.

This reality show has been going on for 74 years as a form of punishment for a district rebellion which almost over threw the capital government. The heroine of the series, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), volunteers to be tribute after her 12-year-old sister’s name was drawn in the tribute lottery. Katniss must use her hunting abilities as her edge to fight on in the games.

So far, reviews for The Hunger Games have been overwhelming positive.  On Flixter.com, 90 percent of critics liked the movie and close to home, a 3-star review was given by Duane Dudek of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

I always enjoying going to midnight movie premieres. Part of the fun is finding the perfect outfit and accessories to wear for the event. Today, I visited several of the shops in downtown Port Washington and found many items that would be perfect for The Hunger Games Premier!

  • Great Selection of feather earrings, necklaces and turquoise jewelry. These reminded me of items that Katniss could find in the forest arena. The Turquoise rings start at $5. Feather necklaces start at $15.00. Mobocracy supports local artists and most of their items are made in Wisconsin. www.mobocracy.biz
  •  Selection of earrings and necklaces that have leaves or birds. Fans of The Hunger Games understand the importance of the Mockingjay, and I was pleased to find several items that reminded me of the bird that mimics sounds.
  • Cafepress.com: Get your free District ID card! I will be wearing mine the night of the premier! The card is free, you just have to pay $1 for shipping charges or print on your own computer.  You also can make custom The Hunger Games T-shirts, hoodies, water bottles and bags.
