St. Patrick's Day 2012: The Local Scoop on Celebrating Irish

St. Patty's day celebrations are going on in downtown Port Washington and Saukville, starting as early as 6 a.m. Saturday.

What do you think of when you hear St. Patrick’s Day? Is it leprechauns, Reuben sandwiches, Shamrock Shakes or green beer? 

No matter who you are, it’s likely that you will profess a bit of Irish heritage on this special day. With St. Patrick's day falling on a Saturday this year there are plenty of St. Patty’s day celebrations going on in downtown Port Washington and Saukville, starting as early as 6 a.m.!

Below is a rundown of the more unique places to spend your morning, day and evening:

  • Between the Greens, Saukville: This Irish Pub features one of the most unique experiences by throwing "The Biggest St. Patrick’s Day Party EVER!" Starting at 6 a.m. with an authentic Irish Breakfast to include: bangers, black and white pudding, and shepard’s pie. Reubens, corned beef and Guinness pulled-pork sandwiches will be served for lunch and dinner. The evening heats up with live music by Finbar McCarthy & Friends starting at 4 p.m.  McCarthy’s will also have drink specials, featuring $1 shots of Celtic Crossing and $2 shots of Jameson Whiskey, Paddy’s Irish Whiskey and Baily’s Irish Cream.
  • , Port Washington: Special of the day will be reuben sandwiches.
  • Port Washington: Will have live music from Bantray Bay, a traditional Irish band, starting at 7:30 pm. 
  • , Port Washington (My un-official pick of best rueben in town) They are open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and the reuben is always on their menu.
  • , Port Washington: A special St. Patty’s Day buffet will be featured at this historic location.  The $16.95 Buffet will be served from 4:30 to 10 p.m., and includes: Colcannon corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, dublin lawyer, Irish stew, curried pork, and cumberland sausage.  Reservations are suggested by calling 262-284-9473.
  • Port Washington: Will have live music starting at 8 p.m. by the band Vinyl Groove, who will be playing the hits from the 60’s. 
  • , Port Washington: Serving rueben wraps and green beer all day.
  • , Port Washington: If you're looking for something stronger than green beer, try Sir James Irish Wolfhound. A tall pint includes a shot of Jameson, Kahlua, Irish Cream and Sprecher’s Root beer. 

If bars/pubs aren’t your scene, don’t worry. Bernie’s Fine Meat has the perfect solution to bring St. Patty’s day home

  • , Port Washington- Will be serving their homemade barrel brined and slow roasted corned beef rueben sandwiches for the second year in a row. They will also be selling their corned beef "fresh" cut to the customers’ demands. Items available Friday and Saturday only.
