Just before 2 a.m. Jan. 30, met with the manager of Otto’s. He explained to officers that an ex-employee, a 20-year-old Saukville man, was caught stealing from the Brown Deer branch recently — which prompted him to check the Bayside location's security cameras as the man worked there as well. After reviewing the tapes, he discovered the ex-employee had taken a case of Jack Daniels Whiskey (a total of six, 1.75 liter bottles) valued at approximately $120 from the Bayside store on Jan. 12 between 8 and 9 p.m. The video shows him taking it out through the rear door of the building.
The ex-employee came into the Bayside station for questioning, as requested by police. When officers asked him why he was told to come to the station, he said, "Because I took the liquor." He said he "wanted to come clean and admit what he had done," according to the police report.
He admitted to stealing a case of Grey Goose, valued at $335.88, and a case of Jack Daniels, valued at $221.94.
He had left the case of Grey Goose in the trunk and, when he was working at the Brown Deer location the following day, that manager noticed the case. He told police he didn’t want to get caught with the other stolen case, so he threw it in the dumpster at his apartment.
The total loss to Otto’s was $221.94 and they recovered the case of Grey Goose.
The ex-employee was given a $3,201 citation for theft.
