Another Inmate Dies at Ozaukee County Jail

53-year-old Grafton man is the third person since June to have been found dead in the county jail. There's no word on the cause of death.

For the third time since June, an inmate has died at the Ozaukee County Jail, the Sheriff's Department said Sunday.

The body of Emanuel M. Washington, 53, was discovered at 2:48 a.m. Sunday in a jail cell, the department said. Deputies attempted to perform CPR on him, but he died about 45 minutes later.

The Grafton man had been in jail since Wednesday, when he was arrested for drunken driving. He was custody through the state Department of Corrections probation hold, the department said.

There was no word on the cause of death Sunday and the Sheriff's Department said no more details would be available until Monday.

In June, two inmate suicides within a seven-day period prompted county officials to launch an investigation into the deaths

Inmate Sonia Mojica, 42, died on June 22 after being on life support for six days following an apparent suicide attempt.  And on June 9, Bridget Moorehead, 41, also died in the jail of an apparent suicide.
