UPDATED: Fire Departments, We Energies Respond to Blaze on Hwy. 32

Apartment buildings evacuated and southbound traffic redirected because of fire.

Law enforcement have evacuated apartment buildings on Highway 32 just south of the Highway 43 intersection and several area fire departments are on scene, Ozaukee dispatch said.

The fire is in 1900 block of Port Washington Road (also Hwy. 32) in Grafton; Port Washington, Saukville, Fredonia, Cedarburg and Grafton fire departments were all on scene.

Southbound traffic on Hwy. 32 has been redirected to a frontage road. Ozaukee dispatch had no other information about the extent of the blaze, or what had started it.

We Energies was called to the scene just before 7 p.m., according to company officials. The fire departments requested We Energies come to the scene and turn off the gas so that they could continue to fight the fire without worrying about something fueling the blaze, officials said. The company has no knowledge of what started the fire, or any other details.
