Caught on Video: Driver Kills Deer — On Purpose?

Video released Tuesday by Port Washington police appear to show the West Bend man who contacted police to report a truck-deer collision running the animal down on purpose.

We Energies security camera footage of a deer-truck collision in Port Washington appears to show a 29-year-old West Bend man running down the animal on purpose, police say.

The man called Port Washington police at 5:25 a.m. April 27 to report that he had struck a deer while on his way to go fishing, according to a police report. The man wanted to claim the deer.

But video released by police Tuesday shows the driver appearing to slow down and wait for the deer to cross the road. The driver flashes his lights, and continues to wait. When the deer cross, the video shows the driver speeding up and apparently deliberately strike the animal.

The incident occurred on South Beach Road, near the We Energies power plant. The road that the driver is headed down when he collides with the deer is a dead end, providing access to a beach parking lot.
